(Exaltation of the Holy Cross)
St. Paul said, “Brothers and sisters:
Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God something to be grasped.
Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave,
coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance,
he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death,
even death on a cross.” Phil 2:6-11
What a beautiful song of the profession of our faith!
So, even though Jesus is God the Son,
He did not ‘lord’ it over us.
Even though we may be doctors or professors,
or famous lawyers or movie stars,
if Jesus didn’t lord being God over us,
what right do we have to lord our earthly earned
professions or wealth or position over others???
For, in essence, we would never be where we are unless
God allowed it, anyway.
So what’s the difference between the poor beggar on the streets
and you or I, beloved?
Maybe he himself has a Ph.D., but was the victim of a greedy,
and selfish corporate world, and is now the victim of a world that thinks
that anyone over 50 is too old to employ. Who am I to judge him?
But who I AM is a child of God who just may care enough
for that poor guy, that I’d give him my lunch,
that I’d give him my movie money.
That WE may have LIFE
