09-24-13 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

In the middle of an important sermon, Jesus learned that his mother and cousins were looking for him on the other side of a huge crowd.  He answered, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”  Lk 8:19-21

We all know that sometimes, we just have to prioritize, when multiple, priority emergencies occur simultaneously.  It would not have been easy for Jesus to reach
his mom because of the crowd, beside the fact that the whole reason the crowd was
there was for Him.  He was preaching about God!  And within that preaching,
Jesus taught that God comes above all, even above our earthly loved ones.

That didn’t mean that Jesus didn’t love his mother. In reality, He was probably
pretty concerned about what she wanted, since she felt it was important enough to interrupt His preaching.  But the preaching had to keep its consistency, integrity
and importance, otherwise it would have been meaningless, if Jesus taught one thing
and did another.  So instead of just ignoring the request, Jesus used it to emphasize
the value and the dignity of every person who followed His teachings.  They were important enough to Jesus to be called His mother and brothers.
And that’s pretty awesome, beloved.
That’s pretty Christian!
