(Sts. Cosmas and Damian, Martyrs)
The LORD spoke through the prophet Haggai saying,
“Consider your ways!
You have sown much, but have brought in little;
you have eaten, but have not been satisfied;
you have drunk, but have not been exhilarated;
have clothed yourselves, but not been warmed;
And whoever earned wages,
earned them for a bag with holes in it.” Hg 1:1-8
Hmmmm, something to think about.
Are the “weeds” of the world eating up our crops?
Or are we carefully discerning what goes into our eyes and ears and hearts and minds?
Is the junk food we eat just loading us with fat, instead of nourishing our strength?
Is our drink making us woozy or temporarily hyped, instead of exhilarating us?
Do our clothes elicit evil thoughts, or glorify and warm us?
And beyond the unmanageable costs of food and transportation today,
what is it that’s eating away at our pocketbooks?
Are we helping out the disadvantaged?
God is saying, beloved, that we are to be as loving about ourselves as we should be towards others, as we should be toward God Himself. You see, what we’re really craving is to know Him better. To know that God loves us so much that He only wants the very best for us as well. Let’s make it our aim today, beloved, to find His Love within, and all around us and to give a little bit back. Is it tough? That’s exactly what Jesus is here for!
