12-03-13 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

(St. Francis Xavier, Priest)

A Shoot

The Prophet Isaiah said, “A shoot shall sprout from
the stump of Jesse,
and from his roots a bud shall blossom.

A Blossom

The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him:
a Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
a Spirit of counsel  and of strength,
a Spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be
the fear of the LORD.

Is 11:1-10

This “shoot” is Jesus,
as a descendent of King David, whose father was named Jesse.

The Spirit is the Holy Spirit.
And that Spirit, resting upon Jesus, would endow Jesus
with the “Gifts of the Holy Spirit,” wisdom, understanding, counsel . . .
Those are the same Gifts, beloved, that we receive in our Confirmation.
And . .

Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit.”  Lk 10:21-24

Just another reason for our constant thanksgiving to God.
With every thought, with every decision of ours,
the Holy Spirit is there to offer us help,
to offer us guidance.
All we need do, beloved, is Listen!
