03-15-14 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

Moses said to the Israelites:  “today the LORD is making this agreement with you: you are to be a people peculiarly his own, as he promised you; and provided you keep all his commandments, he will then raise you high in praise and renown and glory above all other nations he has made, and you will be a people sacred to the LORD, your God, as he promised.”  Dt 26:16-19

Seems there is always an “if, then” relationship between mankind and God.  The Bible calls them covenants.  IF we’re good, God will reward us.  (And that’s kinda like the mutual fund or stock market good – it might not show up in immediate, short term gains, but IF we hang in there and don’t give up – it will should show up in the long term).   But, IF we mess up, then God is always willing to forgive – IF we recognize that “mess-up” and then repent!

That might sound a little hard!  Because we are not supposed to treat others that way.  Jesus says we are supposed to forgive and forgive and forgive “7 X 70 times.”  We are even supposed to: “love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father,” as Jesus says in Mt 5:43-48  So what’s the deal???

Remember the Gospel (Good News) – that “God loves us no matter what!”  Well, we’re supposed to do the same thing: Love no matter what.  And I’m sure God knows that this is impossible in our fallen human state.  But all things are possible for God!  When we can come to knowing God so well that He becomes internal to us.  When our thoughts can become His thoughts, then and only then, will we come close to being able to accomplish the impossible.

What have we ever done on our own, and come to see it to fruition?  We can never reach that ‘epitome’ of richness.  We study years and years on a favorite subject only to wind up doing something totally different.  We work our tails off to get that promotion or special job, only to be refused and refused over and over again.  Well guess what, beloved – IT’s NOT IN OUR HANDS!  And the harder we try, the further we will get from anything we want, and the more frustrated we get!

Give it over to God.  Give it UP!  And somehow HE will get us to where HE wants us – wherever that is!  But LOVE all in the process and enjoy the ride – it’s the only one we have!

God bless, beloved!
