04-06-14 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

April 6, 2014
A friend of Jesus was deathly ill and his sister summoned Jesus to come and help.  But the young man died before Jesus arrived.  Upon His arrival, Jesus said to her (Martha), “Your brother will rise.”  Martha said to him, “I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day.”  Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life;  whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.  Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord.  I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.”  Jn 11:1-45

Martha was truly listening to Jesus, and she came to believe all that He taught.  She believed Jesus to be the Messiah.  And she believed in an “end of time” resurrection.  But she had no clue that the great Kingdom He preached about could possibly exist in the present.  Her brother had died and she would never see him again until she joined him in death.

But Jesus had a different message that needed to be understood.  He was not only the “Life” after death, but he IS the Life during life as well.   And if we can firmly get our heads around the fact that IN JESUS, Life does not end, then death will not be death at all, but just a passageway to the continuation of Life forever!  Thus, everyone who LIVES and BELIEVES will never die. There is no death to those who live eternally IN Jesus.

And how do we live IN Jesus?  We give ourselves entirely over to Him.  We live in and for the LOVE of God – in everyone we meet and in every circumstance we come into.  Pretty complex, yet pretty simple too!

May our Loving God bless you IN Christ always, beloved.  And may you be His Blessing and Life to the world!
