(Second Sunday of Easter, Sunday of Divine Mercy)
St. Peter said, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith,” 1 Pt 1:3-9
Our inheritance – imperishable, undefiled and unfading!
(Where O death is your victory?) LIFE Conquers!
The disciples who left Jesus’ side when He was in greatest need. The disciples who refused to acknowledge that they even knew Him. The disciples who hid! And now He was back! Could you imagine their guilt. How could they ever face Him again. And yet He said “Peace be with you.” God’s mercy is unfathomable to our standards! Jesus said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” Jn 20:19-31 Not only were they forgiven, but they were given the GIFT of the Holy Spirit as well. We call that grace, the unmerited favor of God, even to the undeserving!
“Forgive us our trespasses (Lord), as we forgive those who trespass against us.” As did You, so will we!
As an aside, Congratulations on Sainthood to both Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII.
