Jesus said to his disciples: “. . when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret.
. . when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret.
. . when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to others to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden.
And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.” Mt 6:1-6, 16-18
Jesus tells us that nothing is hidden from our Father. So we are to be humble and honest in all things. And when honesty may be difficult or perplexing in the face of evil, pray, beloved that God will give you the discernment to choose wisely. And God, who knows all things, will see the love and wisdom in your hearts, and you will be dealt equally, with respect and mercy.
