(Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, Apostles)
St. Paul said, “. . my departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.” 2 Tm 4:6-8, 17-18
We pray O Lord that when the time for our departure from this earthly realm comes about, we will be able to profess our faith, just as St. Paul did – with confidence that our reward will be forthcoming – because we kept that Faith in You.
Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” . . . Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.” Mt 16:13-19
And 2000 years later that netherworld is still trying.
But we are strong, beloved, when we keep our faith in Jesus,
regardless of what they think they may do to us!
