08-18-14 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

August 18, 2014
Jesus said to the young man seeking eternal life, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”  Mt 19:16-22

Some people have a very hard time fasting.  And not just from food.  Can we fast from smoking, or TV, or cursing, or drinking?  Can we fast from texting, or internet, or hatred, or jealousy, or selfishness?  Maybe when we think of all those things we are so addicted to, fasting from food might not be all that hard.  We are a people who love our habits.  No, none of it is easy.  But Jesus never said it would be easy.  He DID say that it would be worth it though.  What are we willing to give up to gain “eternal life” beloved?  Maybe if we start small, we can work our way up to whatever it is that keeps us from being 100% for Jesus.
And in place of a habit directed to self,
we can begin a new one
directed to others!

“Come, follow me!”
