(Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels)
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him,
“Here is a true child of Israel. There is no duplicity in him.” Jn 1:47-51
It’s really a good thing to be a person of no duplicity. But maybe only when ALL your thoughts are good! All people are essentially good, but sometimes it may be hard not to get upset at those who do evil things to you. And if you’re a person of no duplicity – you will make certain that they clearly know whatever those thoughts may be.
Nathanael didn’t think very much of Jesus, because he believed that Jesus came from ‘the wrong side of the tracks,’ Galilee. And that was the first thing out of his mouth. Guess its better than holding it in. Jesus himself clearly let the Pharisees and Scribes know what He thought of their actions. Didn’t mean he didn’t love them anyway. But there was no duplicity, no hypocrisy in His words and actions.
So the first thing we need to do, beloved, in order to become this person of “no duplicity” is to make sure all our thoughts of others are good. Then be honest. Because if we do hold it in, it can only hurt our relationships even worse. Think a child ever holds it in? Be like a child then, honest and open, in LOVE!
