(28th Sunday Ordinary Time A)
St. Paul said, “I know how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance. In every circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need. I can do all things in him who strengthens me.” Phil 4:12-14, 19-20
If we could envision all the events in life that could possibly happen to us (no matter how unlikely), it would help us to respond a little better, or a little quicker, IF that event ever, actually did happen. But unfortunately we cannot imagine EVERYTHING. And when those losses or hurts or disappointments DO happen – it always seems a bit different, a little harder.
That’s why we learn to rely on God as well. Imaginative preparation does help, but in reality, we do need a little bit more. We need to become so well befriended with Jesus, with God, that our first and natural response to any unforeseen circumstance is to call upon Him. He will give us the strength, the courage, or the words (to think or to say) that will help us to survive. And then we can make it our mantra as well: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” And believe it – in FAITH!
