01-14-15 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

January 14, 2015
When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him (Jesus) all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him.”  Mk 1:29-39

To the non-Biblically literate this passage might seem awful strange.  Apparently, Jesus was already quite well known for His powers of healing.  But He not only healed their physical ailments, He healed them spiritually as well.  And on top of that, the Gospel writer tells us that the demons He dispelled from the people seemed to know Jesus even better than His own disciples did.

I don’t think I’d want to be well known by demons, at least in the negative sense.  But they didn’t know Jesus as a friend, rather as their enemy.  Funny, how sometimes we know our enemies better than even our closest friends.  Out of fear, those demons begged Jesus to leave them alone.  And all Jesus asked of them was to leave their victims alone.  And they did!  If we ever get to feeling like our lives are controlled by demons,  beloved, then send a little prayer Jesus’ way and you’ll actually get to see a healing within yourself.  Jesus loves us beyond whatever any demon could get us to do.  Trust in Jesus!
