01-19-15 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

January 19, 2015
People came to Jesus and objected, “Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”  Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast.  But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day.”  Mk 2:18-22

The bridegroom, Jesus, had been taken away, and fasting they did.  They were in shock over what happened to their Master.  But then something new happened – He returned in the flesh. Fasting was over for a short while before He left again.  But this time he promised “another Helper,” the Holy Spirit.  And from thence forward we all have had that Helper with us! And so we still fast again.  Though Jesus is distant in His physical presence, He is with us in Spirit and one day we will return to be with him in body and spirit forever!  And so we pray and fast until this day is complete!
