“Remember the days past when, after you had been enlightened, you endured a great contest of suffering. At times you were publicly exposed to abuse and affliction; at other times you associated yourselves with those so treated. You even joined in the sufferings of those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you had a better and lasting possession. Therefore, do not throw away your confidence; it will have great recompense. . . .
We are not among those who draw back and perish,
but among those who have faith and will possess life.”
As we quickly approach the end of the first month of this (rapidly not being “New” any more) Year, maybe there was a little suffering in there as well. Like us, maybe it was the flu or a cold. Maybe it was dreadful weather or the loss of a loved one. And if you live in a country like Nigeria and many others across the globe – your life, very likely may have been just as the writer of Hebrews describes today: persecution and suffering because of your faith!
But know this, beloved, we have you constantly in our prayers. You are our hope and our inspiration, and our hearts go out to you all. Stay strong, dear ones, “do not throw away your confidence” but know that God promises a reward greater than all the suffering you have had to endure. And one day when we come to those pearly gates too, we only ask that you please pray for our souls as well!
May God bless you and keep you always in His CARE!
