02-03-15 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

February 3, 2015
(St. Blase, Bishop and Martyr)
Brothers and sisters: Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith.   Heb 12:1-4

Day of healing all around.  St. Blase was known for his intercessory healing of a choking young boy, thus our blessing of throats.  And in our Gospel reading today (Mk 5:21-43), Jesus heals a woman with hemorrhages and raises a little girl from death.  These were people of faith who fixed their eyes on Jesus and believed in His power to heal.

The woman would risk all she had to sneak a touch of Jesus’  cloak.  And the father of the little girl was the perfect intercessor: through his faith in Jesus, his daughter was healed.  Jesus listens to our prayers as well as our intercessions for others.

Persevere in the race, beloved, and God’s heavenly kingdom will come to us!
