Jesus said to His disciples, “Children, how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God.” They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “For men it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God.” Mk 10:17-27
What was it about this “Kingdom” that Jesus always spoke of, beloved, that was so difficult? Maybe it’s just this thing we call human nature. Our nature to want to control our environment and situations. Our nature to build our own little worlds of safety and security through possessions and wealth. Ever wonder why that insurance business has thrived so well? We need our security! Just in case whatever might happen, we’re covered!
I don’t think Jesus is saying that we should not protect ourselves, but He is telling us to lighten up on it a little. Trust in God. Trust in Him. You see, the more we can place our complete trust in God, the less we have to worry about; the less we become possessive (to the point of arguments, disputes and wars); the less we become so self-centered that we forget to care for, to love, everyone else around us. The Kingdom is a COMMUNITY, not an individual. And the leader of that community is our God. And WITH God, all things are possible, when we BELIEVE!
