. . the LORD passed before him (Moses) and cried out, “The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity, continuing his kindness for a thousand generations, and forgiving wickedness and crime and sin; yet not declaring the guilty guiltless, but punishing children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation for their fathers’ wickedness!” Ex_33:7-11;_34:5b-9,_28
Sometimes I just wonder what it was that our great-great grandfathers did to merit all the suffering we have to deal with in this life. And yet, I’m no saint either. And who am I to be passing on that flaming torch? But then, if we look at it from the other side – there is an awful lot that we have to be thankful for as well. We truly are Blessed! The LORD truly is merciful and gracious to us! All we need do is continue working on getting better. Not only for our own sakes, but for the sakes of our own children and grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
