(St. Robert Bellarmine)
Jesus said, “Two people were in debt to a certain creditor; one owed five hundred days’ wages and the other owed fifty. Since they were unable to repay the debt, he forgave it for both. Which of them will love him more?” Simon said in reply, “The one, I suppose, whose larger debt was forgiven.” He said to him, “You have judged rightly.” Lk 7:36-50
And yet, the bottom line is that we should love everyone equally, regardless of what they’ve done for us or forgiven. And as nice as it is to be forgiven by others, who is it, beloved, that we have forgiven today?
Our call is to Love them, then forgive them. Then hope that they may have the kindness to forgive us as well.
