12-09-15 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

December 9, 2015
(St. Juan Diego)
Jesus said to the crowds: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”   Mt 11:28-30

Both Jesus and the prophet Isaiah talk to us today about finding strength in God.

You see, there are a lot of things in life that can just wear us out.
And often, many of these “burdens” come from our own doing.

Maybe we just didn’t feel like doing all of those routine jobs of ours, and all of a sudden they’ve piled up on us – and it feels like a huge burden.

Maybe there are things that bother us – that we have no control of, like the economy, or the healthcare situation, or the political and social mess of our world.

Maybe we’ve been asked to do something – that popped up by surprise, and we just weren’t prepared for something extra.

Or maybe, just the opposite, we’d really like to do more, but we just don’t know what it is that we could do – to help others and make us happy too.

These are the times when we need to come back to Jesus, and ask for His help.  You see He’s always there to help us, just for the asking.

Jesus says, “take my yoke.”  What that means is that – instead of trying to carry all those burdens by ourselves, Jesus is willing to share His yoke – to help us carry them.  And that will lighten the load on our hearts and our bodies.

Do we have too much to do?

Take a deep breath, and with the help of Jesus, we’ll find that – little bites – will get the jobs done just as well, without all the worry.

Uncontrollable problems?

Take a deep breath, and with the help of Jesus, we can say some prayers together for better times to come, and not feel so helpless, because then, we are doing something about it!

Nothing much to do?

Take a deep breath and ask Jesus to offer us some suggestions.  Maybe there’s a young child who would love to have stories read to them.  Maybe we can help someone else to find Jesus – to help ease their burdens.  Maybe we just need to let others know – that we are willing to help them, as long as it’s not overtaxing on us.

You see, there are all kinds of solutions to help us lighten the burdens of life, – when we just remember to count on God, to count on Jesus – for help.

This week, let’s see how many times we can thank Jesus – for helping us to lighten our burdens, by sharing His yoke.  And then we can take some of that extra time – and REST.
