02-09-16 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

February 9, 2016
In refuting the Pharisees for their overly strict adherence to Jewish law, at the cost of respect for parents and neighbors, Jesus quoted Isaiah saying, This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me;  In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts.’  Mk_7:1-13

Good point!  Sometimes we can be a little too ‘religious’ at the cost of respect for others, too.  It reminds me of people who complain about children at Mass.  It reminds me of people who come to Mass and never say a word to another soul.  Jesus said that God wants us to love neighbor as ourselves.  Beyond loving God, that should always take priority over any religious activity we may be involved in.  Love MUST come first!
