Jesus said to the unbelieving ‘Jews’, “If I do not perform my Father’s works, do not believe me; but if I perform them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” Jn_10:31-42
If you ever had an argument, or I might say, a discussion with a
non-believer, you come to find out that 90% of the time, they are so fixed on making it an argument, that they have no interest whatsoever in listening to what you have to say about the Lord.
A few verses before today’s Gospel reading, Jesus said to the unbelieving Jews: “The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me. But you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.“
Today’s Scripture readings clearly covered both personalities. The unbelieving Jews would argue Jesus into the ground and still never change their view, even having witnessed, first hand, all of His miracles.
The believers, on the other hand, on the other side of the Jordan, came to believe because their hearts and their minds were open, in FAITH. They truly were His Sheep, as are we. And to us, Jesus promises that gift of eternal life; to be one with Him forever; Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity!
In the meantime, we must always remember, that just like Jesus, we should never give up on anyone, because we never know what God might have in store, even for those hardened unbelievers! It just may be their conversion and an eternity in paradise!
