(St. Peter Chanel, Priest)
Jesus said, “Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.” “I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete.” Jn_15:9-11
When we tell our children not to play with fire before they know how to handle it, it is for their own good. They may not know what it’s like not have a home to live in because it was burned down. They may not be able to imagine the pain of being burned and the long, if ever, recovery from the hurt and scars. They may not realize the good it does for them by listening to the instructions of their parents.
Just so, we may not have a clue as to the consequences of not living the Commandments of God. But Jesus tells us that the reward of living those commandments is “Complete JOY!” And that’s something I think we can truly learn to live with!
