(21st Sunday Ordinary Time C)
Someone asked him (Jesus), “Lord, will only a few people be saved?” He answered them, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough. . . . For behold, some are last who will be first,
and some are first who will be last.” Lk_13:22-30
Whenever we get to thinking, beloved, that we are the special ones, we are the chosen one, we are the one without sin who will be the first into God’s Kingdom, then we need to step back and remember these words.
It’s not what we think of ourselves or how much we feel we’re doing for the good of our own self-righteousness, but it’s what God thinks of us. It’s what we do to get others there before thinking about ourselves. Stay on the narrow path, beloved. Beware the pride of self-confidence. And don’t worry about our place in line. Just stay in line!
