(The Passion of St. John the Baptist)
Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Mk_6:17-29

Ever feel down, beloved?  Ever feel down enough to say, “OK, Lord, I’ve had just about enough.  You can take me away now!”?  And yet, are we down because we feel persecuted?  Are we persecuted because of something we’ve done for ourselves?  Or are we persecuted because we’ve been standing up for the Lord, because we have been righteous in His sight (not ours)?  Jesus says blessed is that persecution because of righteousness for God.  John the Baptist was persecuted exactly for that reason.  Blessed is he and blessed can we be too, beloved, when we devote our lives to being righteous in God’s sight.
