12-19-16 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

O Root of Jesse’s stem,
sign of God’s love for all his people:
come to save us without delay!
Alleluia verse

But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom.  The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be the fear of the LORD.  Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, but he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide fairly for the land’s afflicted.  Is_11: 1-4

God . . . Abraham – Isaac – Jacob (Israel) – Judah (“the root of Jesse’s stem“) . . . . . Jesse – David . . . (downfall of Israel and Judahthe stump of Jesse“) . . . Jesus (“the Stem, the Shoot“) – our Savior, endowed by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, who taught us, and healed us, and demonstrated His might and His power!   It is this Jesus who blankets us in God’s love, who forgives our transgressions, who brings to us that same Holy Spirit with God’s love and power.

Come Lord Jesus!  Fill us now and always!
