02-06-17 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

(Saint Paul Miki and Companions, Martyrs)
In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters.  Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.   Gn1:1-19

God reveals Himself to us from the very first few words of the Bible.

You see, this was the very beginning of the environment in which WE live.  It was not God’s beginning, because God existed always and will continue to exist forever.  But in OUR beginning, there was our God who created absolutely everything that exists.  This was God our Father and Creator.

And out of the darkness, out of the nothingness, our God created Form.  That form was called the earth.  And the earth, covered with water, was made alive by a “mighty wind.”  This mighty wind, as we know, was the very breath of God, the Holy Spirit.  The same Holy Spirit who breathed life into the first human being, Adam (man).  The same Holy Spirit who guides, directs and makes us holy.  This was God the Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier.

“Then God said . . .”  This ‘Word of God,’ as St. John describes Him, is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  And through Jesus, we are redeemed.  We are saved from the fires of hell, when we believe in Him.  And yet, as St. Paul has said, He didn’t leave us orphans to find it all out by ourselves.  Jesus left us His Word, the Bible.  And that Word is available for ALL who can read it.  And that Word is available for all who cannot read it, through our sharing it with one another. So, God the Son is Jesus our Redeemer.

Thus, in the first two sentences or verses of the Bible, God has revealed to us His very nature:  God is Holy Trinity:  God the Father/Creator, God the Holy Spirit/Sanctifer and God the Son (Jesus)/Redeemer.  And this Wisdom, this revelation about God is a Grace in itself.  We are His beloved children!

What greater Love can there be!
