03-01-17 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

March 1, 2017
(Ash Wednesday)
Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the LORD, your God.   Jl_2:12-18

Happy March, beloved.  And a very blessed Season of Lent to you.  Lent is a season of penitence, a season of returning back to the Lord.  As the ashes on our foreheads represent the dust from which we originated.  They also remind us of the awesome love of our Creator, God.  A love so unimaginable that out of the dust He created the marvels of the human body.  And yet that marvelous beauty that you are, can only be so by the love and grace and mercy of God.

That’s what we remember in Lent.  And the least little sacrifices we can make to constantly keep our minds and our hearts on Him; on the suffering that Jesus endured for love of us, the closer we will grow in appreciation of both His love for us and the love He wants us to have for others.

If our sacrifices make us grumpier, if they make us bitter and harmful to other people, then we’ve got it all backwards.  God doesn’t want bitter sacrifice.  All He wants is JOY.  If nothing else, Lent should bring us Joy!  And then we are called to spread that joy to everyone we encounter.

May God’s blessings be upon you, beloved, to strengthen you and bring you the Joy of His love, today and always!
