Jesus said, “Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do. I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.” Lk_5:27-32
We’ve heard it said, the Catholic Church is not a haven for the elite or the saints, but a hospital for the sinners. Ohhh, and when you think about it, that’s us too, beloved! Thank God for our Chief Physician, Jesus! But just what is it that we need healing from?
Thus says the LORD: If you remove from your midst oppression, false accusation and malicious speech; If you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted; Then light shall rise for you in the darkness, and the gloom shall become for you like midday; Then the LORD will guide you always and give you plenty even on the parched land. He will renew your strength, and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails. Is_58:9b-14
So after we work on eliminating some of our own sins, if we can do this too, OH what a wonderful life it could be.
In a former job I had, we used to have to wear a pictured name tag on a string around our necks. So one day I decided to insert one of those cards that said something about praising Jesus on the back side of that name tag. As I walked around, the card would flip from one side to the other and eventually I found people apologizing to me for their language or stopping half sentence and correcting themselves because they remembered they were in the presence of something important, Jesus Christ. THAT’s the healing Jesus wants. And it could be as simple as that, without saying a word, that we become His assistant physicians as well! Cool?!! Cool!
