The Prophet Jeremiah said, “Heed me, O LORD, and listen to what my adversaries say. Must good be repaid with evil that they should dig a pit to take my life? Remember that I stood before you to speak in their behalf, to turn away your wrath from them.” Jer_18:18-20
Sometimes the price for ‘rooting for the underdog’ (cheering them on), is that the underdog himself will undermine you, despite the fact that what you are doing is for his own good.
I’ve found this with bosses who mistook my enthusiasm as competition against them, when it was actually meant for their own credit. Sometimes, “You’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t.” It’s the ‘way’ of the world!
Jeremiah, most of the other Prophets, and even Jesus found this same philosophy when trying to bring the lost back to God.
And we’ll often find it whenever we try to share the Good News of God’s love with others.
But God’s ways are not the world’s ways, and there is Hope. For Jesus told us, “Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.” Mt 5:11-12
So “grin and bear it,” beloved.
The BEST is yet to come!
