Some in the crowd who heard these words of Jesus said, “This is truly the Prophet.” Others said, “This is the Christ.” But others said, “The Christ will not come from Galilee, will he? Does not Scripture say that the Christ will be of David’s family and come from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?” So a division occurred in the crowd because of him. Some of them even wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. Jn_7:40-53
A good reminder, beloved, that we need to always be careful about thinking we know all the answers, jumping to conclusions and being ready to crucify everyone who doesn’t agree with us. Jesus caused division. And they just couldn’t figure him out. But rather than listen. Rather than understanding, their answer was to follow the mob. And we know now that the mob was all led by a conniving group of power-hungry Pharisees. Keeping in mind, that it wasn’t ALL Pharisees who were bad. Remember Nicodemus!
But think about our situation in America today. Who’s jumping to crucify a president who has barely gotten his feet on the ground. Who’s causing all the ruckus, riling up women, riling up people who should be a little more level-headed? And what’s their agenda? Are we traveling down the same path as the first century Jews. And remember what happened to Jerusalem not very long afterwards!
Open minds and open hearts!
