04-05-17 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

(St. Vincent Ferrer, Priest)
Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him, “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  They answered him, “We are descendants of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone.  How can you say, ‘You will become free’?”  Jesus answered them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.  A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son always remains.  So if the Son frees you, then you will truly be free.   Jn_8:31-42

Funny.  We might have asked the same question.  And yet, in all of our “freedom,” are we really, “truly” free.  Are we slaves to work or home or computers or cell phones?  Are we slaves to habit or constantly having to fix all the “stuff” we own, in our freedom?  Are we slaves to the media or to our illnesses?  Are we slaves to sports or TV or politics or our cars?  What’s enslaving us, beloved?  And what is it that Jesus can free us from, besides our sin?  Come to Him and His Truth will honestly set you free.  And THAT freedom is TRUE freedom!
