04-11-17 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

April 11, 2017
Tuesday of Holy Week
Jesus was deeply troubled and testified, “Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” . . .

Peter asked Jesus, “Master, who is it?”  Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I hand the morsel after I have dipped it.”  So he dipped the morsel and took it and handed it to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot.  After Judas took the morsel, Satan entered him.

Jesus said to His disciples, “Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, though you will follow later.”  Peter said to him, “Master, why can I not follow you now?  I will lay down my life for you.”  Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me?  Amen, amen, I say to you, the cock will not crow before you deny me three times.”  Jn_13:21-33,36-38

Light and Darkness.  Goodness and Evil.  Righteousness and Deceit.  Jesus did not walk the path of an “easy street.”  Everywhere he turned there were those planning his demise.  Even those he should have trusted the most, who thought they could give up everything for Him, in the end would turn against Him, or at least, not have the courage to stand up for Him.

Ever wonder, beloved, why the Gospel stories seem to concentrate so much on the Pharisees, on Judas, and on the failure of Peter to defend His Master?  This life we live really is no bed of roses!  Yes, there may be phases of utopia in our lives, or awesome days, or wonderful vacations.  But we are never to forget that behind it all there’s always someone who just wants our money, or our job, or even our life, as they wanted that of Jesus.

And there’s nothing that we can ‘personally’ DO to make any difference in that fact.  But there IS something we can do with the help of Jesus.  We can be strong enough to BELIEVE.  We can be strong enough to know that there will be falls, like Peter.  There may even be times of deceit like Judas in our lives.  And we may even want to debate Jesus on minute details of insignificance that we may think are important, like the Pharisees.  But, with Jesus ON our side, we can overcome all those downfalls and jump right back up to conquer every little trick that Satan may throw at us.  Jesus will always forgive us, when we come back to Him.  Jesus will always support and strengthen us when we just ask for His help.  Trust, beloved, and LIVE!
