04-29-17 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

April 29, 2017
(St. Catherine of Siena, Virgin and Doctor of the Church)
the Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said, “It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table.  Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” The proposal was acceptable to the whole community, so they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the Apostles who prayed and laid hands on them. Acts_6:1-7

And thus, the first Deacons of the Church were formed.  And the first of them, Stephen became the first Martyr of the Church as well.  These men were called to serve in Charity to the needy, at the Altar to assist the Bishop and Priests, and in Word to proclaim Jesus, just as Stephen did for the sake of his very life.

Blessed are those who answer the call to serve the Lord in whatever way their lives permit, whether it is in married life, as single men and women, in the priesthood or in religious orders. For them He will support and reward with life eternal!

Blessed be God forever!

Jesus is our Hope and our Life.
Jesus calms all of our storms with His love!
