05-01-17 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

(St. Joseph the Worker)
Stephen, filled with grace and power, was working great wonders and signs among the people. . . .
All those who sat in the Sanhedrin looked intently at him and saw that his face was like the face of an angel.   Acts_6:8-15

Sometimes, beloved, our minds may be so set on something that is so irrelevant to life, and yet, our hearts know that there is someone, maybe someone we think is an adversary, truly sent by God right in our midst.  But we aren’t listening.  We throw that arm up in anger.  We curse and we growl, but the message was really meant to help us, not to anger us.  Are we listening?  Are we looking for that angel, in whatever form God has sent him or her?  Stephen may have been a little over zealous, but he was true to God all the way to the end, praying for even his persecutors, just like Jesus.  What strength!  What faith!  What a model!

Give us the strength, Jesus, to be like You, to be like Stephen!

Jesus answered and said to them,
“This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.”
