Some who had come down from Judea were instructing the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the Mosaic practice, you cannot be saved.” Because there arose no little dissension and debate by Paul and Barnabas with them, it was decided that Paul, Barnabas, and some of the others should go up to Jerusalem to the Apostles and presbyters about this question. Acts_15:1-6
The Jews were born into their faith. And having grown up observant of all the laws and following all the rituals, they had a hard time allowing “those (filthy) Gentiles” into their new-found faith in Jesus. Besides, Jesus was a Jew Himself! So why should they get away with not being circumcised, with not following all their rules as well? Can we feel their anxiety, beloved? Would we have not felt the same way?
But that is not the “Way” of Jesus. Jesus healed the clean and the unclean. Jesus loved the saint and the sinner. And He made no distinction. All were welcome into His Kingdom, if they believed.
Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” Jn_15:1-8
We need to be very careful, beloved, to keep our own prejudices, our own struggles and past from separating us from that vine which is Jesus and His Church. Accept in Love all who want to, or do – believe in Jesus, regardless of their minor differences from us. We are no more special to God than every one of His Children! And that’s pretty Special!
