(St. Boniface, Bishop and Martyr)
I, Tobit, have walked all the days of my life on the paths of truth and righteousness. I performed many charitable works for my kinsmen and my people who had been deported with me to Nineveh, in Assyria. Tb_1:3;2:1a-8
The story of Tobit is one of my favorites! Unfortunately, if you have a non-Catholic Bible, you will not find the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit because it was selectively omitted. And yet it is filled with excitement, adventure, intrigue and JOY! And where there is joy, there is also – our God.
Today we’re introduced to Tobit and his son Tobias. It’s a picture of an exemplary father and his obedient and trustworthy son. In the following days, we’ll hear snippets of Tobit’s story. If you’re not familiar with it, beloved, pick up your Bible and enjoy. I’m sure you’ll find it as fun and enlightening and prayerful as I have. And may our Loving God bless you, as we enter our extraordinary Season of Ordinary Time.
