(St. Benedict, Abbot)
Jacob wrestled with “a man,” as he escaped the bondage of his kinfolk. The man asked, “What is your name?” He answered, “Jacob.” Then the man said, “You shall no longer be spoken of as Jacob, but as Israel, because you have contended with divine and human beings and have prevailed.” Gn_32:23-33
Sometimes, we too, wrestle with God, beloved. In those times when we just don’t understand, when we can’t see the same big picture that God sees, we wrestle with understanding. Maybe it’s a suffering we’re going through that never seems to end. Maybe it’s a goal in life that we just can’t seem to be able to reach. Maybe we’re in a rut and the walls are just too slippery for us to climb out by ourselves. Have faith, beloved. God knows all of our challenges. Rely on Him. Pray for answers. And never give up. We WILL prevail, with the help of God, who never leaves us. God who always loves us. Jesus, who died for our salvation!
