10-30-17 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

October 30, 2017
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.  Rom_8:12-17

Nice statement, beloved!  But there’s a lot to chew on there.  What’s your focus?  Is it the Spirit?  Is it being “children of God?”  Is it the heir and glory part?  Or is it the suffering?

If we’re focused on the suffering, or the inheritance, or even the glory, again, we’re missing the point.  The point is that we are God’s children and the Holy Spirit is dwelling, living, within us.  It’s from that Spirit that we have the strength to endure any suffering!  So we don’t have to worry about the suffering.

And the inheritance and glory, they come along for the ride.  If our goal is the inheritance and glory then we just may miss the children part.  We are all children of God, which means we have many, many brothers and sisters here in this world.  And we need to treat them as such, love them, care for them, suffer for them, just as we do for our Father and our brother, Jesus!  It all works for the GOOD! And that good is eternal life!
