(First Sunday of Advent, Yr. B)
Jesus said, “Watch, therefore; you do not know when the Lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!'” Mk_13:33-37
Where are the closed doors behind which we hide from the Lord, beloved? Are they in our homes or our workplaces? Places where we think God is not watching.
Did I shrink from answering that call to bless a coworker in his time of distress? Did I allow that judgment or anger to linger just a moment too long in my thoughts? Did I fall asleep when my home, my heart and mind, were being trashed by things of the world?
Jesus reminds us today, that we need to be awake at ALL times, even in the night, especially in the night, because that is exactly when the “evil one” does his work. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s help, beloved, that we may never fall, spiritually, asleep. And then we will be ready whenever our Savior comes back to bring us home!
