(St. Ambrose, Bishop and Doctor of the Church)
Jesus said to his disciples: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. Mt_7:21,24-27
If we want it to last, beloved, we build it on rock, not on sandstone. If we want to pass the test we have to read the book and not just open it. If we want to live God’s Kingdom, we have to act on Jesus’ words, not just read them.
Helping the poor, visiting the elderly, teaching the children and being friendly to the stranger; these are acts of God’s Love. And if we can spread God’s Word in the process of doing these acts, we will, all the more, be living in that Kingdom! Blessed be God for giving us all the ability to share His Love with whatever talents we have been blessed with, that we may build His Kingdom here and now, and live with Him forever!
