01-10-18 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

January 10, 2018
When Samuel went to sleep in his place, the LORD came and revealed his presence, calling out as before, “Samuel, Samuel!” Samuel answered, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” . . . Samuel grew up, and the LORD was with him, not permitting any word of his to be without effect.  1_Sm_3:1-10,19-20

Three times it took Samuel and Eli to realize that it was the LORD calling.  Samuel, understanding only a physical reality to life, even though he often prayed to the LORD and worshiped Him, never sensed this spiritual aspect of life.  And once he did with the help of Eli, he could never stop speaking with and for the LORD to all he came in contact with.  His Word was never without effect!

It can be the same for us, beloved!  With the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, how well do we listen for Him?  How well do we accept what we hear and follow through on what we’re called to do?

What joy life can be when we listen, accept and act on God’s Word!
