After David’s victory, The women played and sang: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.” Saul was very angry and resentful of the song, for he thought: “They give David ten thousands, but only thousands to me. All that remains for him is the kingship.” And from that day on, Saul was jealous of David. Saul discussed his intention of killing David. . . 1_Sm_18:6-9;19:1-7
Funny, but not really, how human nature always brings us back to that pride and selfishness, jealousy and hatred. Saul had already been told by Samuel that he was no longer in the LORD’s favor, for his disobedience and pride. And here it was all beginning to show. There would be others. Just like the jealousy of King Herod, a thousand years later, over a little child, a threat to his own pride.
Only in the Lord Jesus can we overcome this human trait of pride. The Good News that Jesus came to teach us was that God loves us – no matter what. Doesn’t matter if we’re king or not. Doesn’t matter if we’re the greatest warrior or not. Doesn’t even matter if we’re a Saint or a sinner! God loves us anyway, beloved. So give up on the pride thing and trust in the love of God. And let not the troubles of the world get you upset. GOD LOVES YOU!
