(St. Vincent, Deacon and Martyr)
Jesus said, “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. . . . all sins and all blasphemies that people utter will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasting sin.” Mk_3:22-30
I was recently thinking about civil wars: lands where people are so divided against one another, often over silly issues, that they are willing to kill one another because of them. Jesus tells us that such a land will not stand. When the people become so divided, when the elected people in the government can’t even agree with one another, to the extent that they need to shut it down, when all the media has to talk about is death and hatred for their own president, then we must be very wary of the outcome Jesus is talking about. There is a force out there, beloved, who would like nothing less than to see our great nation fall. Be very cautious who you listen to and believe. There is only one Truth! And when we blaspheme against the Truth of the Holy Spirit within us, then we’re drinking our own bottle of cyanide. God loves us all. And we should, as well!
