Jesus told a parable about two men, one proud and haughty and the other ashamed and humble: “…the (humble) tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’ I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Lk_18:9-14
If we take the highest place, beloved, there is only direction we can go: down. But if we take a lower place, although we can go lower still, we can also be saved, redeemed and even exalted! We are justified because in recognizing our imperfection we give God the space to perfect us! And blessed are we, then!
