(Holy Thursday, B)
In celebration of the Passover in a new way, with a new Covenant, Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. 1_Cor_11:23-26
What intense, intense love Jesus had for us! As a mother might offer her life in exchange for that of her child. As a lover would do the same for their beloved. Jesus did exactly that for us strangers, us sinners, us unworthy, lost and bruised children of God His Father. THAT’s the epitome of love. How can we not do the same for His sake? LOVE one another!
EVERY time we partake in the Blessed Sacrament, beloved, we proclaim His death. We remember His love. We become a little bit more a true part of His body, His soul, His divinity within us. And that’s something to live for!
