(St. Damien de Veuster, priest)
Molokai: The Story of Father Damien (1999)
Jesus said to his disciples: “A little while and you will no longer see me, and again a little while later and you will see me.” . . .  Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.”  Jn_16:16-20

After His death they no longer saw Him and the “world” rejoiced, while they mourned.  After His resurrection they did see Him again, and they were filled with joy and wonder.  After His ascension they no longer saw Him.  In the Pentecost He was with them again in the Spirit, even though they did not see Him.  And finally, in our own deaths, we will see Him again – and our Joy will be complete.

Praise God in Jesus Christ always!
