06-05-18 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

June 5, 2018
(St. Boniface, Bishop and Martyr)
Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent to Jesus to ensnare him in his speech.  They asked, “Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?”  Jesus replied, “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.”  They were utterly amazed at him.   Mk_12:13-17

Whose law takes precedence, the law of our secular world, or the law of God?  Of course, the law of God always takes precedence, but it includes honesty in our secular world.  If the land in which we live requires the payment of a tax.  It is our obligation to pay it, if we want to keep our residence in that land.  Likewise, our bodies have been consecrated to God in our baptisms.  Thus we have an obligation to use them for His greater glory:  following His laws and commandments to Love Him and our neighbor.  You see, beloved, it’s as simple as the face on a coin, and the faces of one another – formed in the image of God!
