06-30-18 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

June 30, 2018
When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.”  He said to him, “I will come and cure him.”  The centurion said in reply, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. . . .  And Jesus said to the centurion, “You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you.”  And at that very hour his servant was healed.   Mt_8:5-17

A very familiar chant for all Catholics, “Lord, I am not worthy . . .

Context: the Centurion recognized his place among the Jews, as an untouchable Gentile.  And he knew that Jews were not even allowed to enter the dwelling places of Gentiles, lest it would make them unclean.  And yet, the centurion believed that Jesus had the power to heal his servant.  Of course, as any parent would know, we would do ANYTHING for the well-being of our children.  This was the mindset of the centurion.  IF there was ever any possibility of saving his servant, Jesus had the very best of odds!

All of that is the perfect analogy for our own lives, beloved.  Not only are we Gentiles like the centurion, but we are truly not worthy of Jesus, beneath all of our sins.  Yet, when we have the Faith to believe in Jesus, as St. Paul says, all things are possible.

Which leaves us with that ever-present question, How strong IS our faith, beloved?  Jesus will open doors when knocked upon – when we believe!  Jesus will respond to requests – when we believe.  And Jesus will love us no matter what our mindset is, belief or not, NO MATTER WHAT!   So why not make the best of His offer, beloved!

BELIEVE.
with all your heart,
BELIEVE!

. . . and it shall be done for you!
