Jesus began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented. “Woe to you, . . .” Mt_11:20-24
Well! It was bad enough that His own hometown neighbors rejected Jesus, and thus, He was not able to perform any “mighty deeds” for them because of their lack of faith. But coming back to some of the other towns that had witnessed His power and healing love, and seeing them in the same state of sinfulness they were in before His miracles, was pushing the limits of His blessings! Some people can just be so rude, so ignorant, so unappreciative.
Jesus came to teach them the power of their own faith! And that power, and that faith was useless if they didn’t change their hearts from themselves to God.
Every day, beloved, we are graced with miracle after miracle from God. From the air we breathe to the food we have to eat. From our jobs, and our survival even if we don’t have them, to our shelter, our families, our Faith Communities, we have been blessed beyond measure. Is it changing us, beloved? Are WE appreciative? Are we giving up all those “iniquities” within us and replacing them with a sincere love for Jesus, a love for God? This is what we’re called to do! And in doing so, Jesus tells us that we will be rewarded in this life and the next, beyond what we even understand today. All it takes FAITH! All it takes LOVE! All it takes is openness to change!
